Plot Highlights

Louie Zamperini was born into an immigrant Italian family that resided in Torrance, California. He was constantly bullied as a child for his accent and distinct Italian features. He was never outstanding at anything he did, that is, until he found his favorite actvitiy: stealing. He became the town's delinquent, always sneaking into houses or businesses and taking whatever he pleased. With the help of his older brother, Pete, Louie channeled his delinquency into running. Louie became a champion high school runner for Torrance High School and went on to becoming qualified for Olympic trials. After he passed the Olympic trials, Louie became a track runner in the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

Soon after the Berlin Olympics, World War II erupted. Louie decided to enlist as a airman for the United States Air Force. Embarking on a journey through Pacific, Louie and his fellow crew members fight many treacherous air raids and risked their lives on a daily basis throughout the war. While on a search and rescue mission flying over the Pacific Ocean, Louie and the crew crash land, leaving only Louie and two other men alive. With nothing but a few bites of food and small lifeboat, the three men must fight for survival for month. The journey through the Pacific tests their faith, resilience, and courage. Unbroken is an inspiring story of how these men survive, who they encounter along the way, and why they keep fighting for another day of survival.
